Some say, “You can see a sunset or sunrise in Africa and believe you have witnessed the hand of God. The awesome skies painted with colours that seem almost unreal”.
The wilderness and diversity of the landscapes, from the vast open plains of the Serengeti to the misty lush jungle of Uganda, to the arid deserts of Namibia to the wetlands of the Okavango Delta. Each unique with its own story of evolution, survival, and challenges faced by its inhabitants. Africa, like many other wilderness places on earth right now is vulnerable and a constant reminder of the delicate, complex and interconnected balance between climate change, human intervention, and the wildlife.
The increasing importance of conservation efforts to protect and preserve this balance for future generations is constantly highlighted on each journey back to Africa and it is awesome to personally see and experience many of great initiatives that other countries, companies and remarkable individuals have and are making.
Africa is mystical, it is emotional, it is a photographers paradise, it is also a photographers greatest challenge. The challenge of how to capture in a single frame the raw emotion, the awe inspiring wilderness, the magic, the beat of its heart is the ultimate quest.
Many of the images in this collection are moments of incredibly immersive and intimate encounters with wildlife. It is my wish that these pieces in someway touch your heart, inspire you and portray the drama and tension of life and enduring spirit of Africas wild heart. Enjoy Sue
“Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up, it knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn’t matter whether you’re the lion or a gazelle - when the sun comes up, you’d better be running.” - African Proverb
